Buying prescription glasses online saves time and money, and it's easier than most people expect. Here's the whole process, start to finish.
1. Get a current eyeglass prescription
You need an eyeglass prescription from an eye exam, not a contact lens prescription. Check that it's current; most are valid for one to two years. Look for an ADD value: if there isn't one, you need single vision lenses.
2. Know your PD
Your pupillary distance centers the lenses on your eyes. If it's not on your prescription, measure your PD at home with a mirror and a millimeter ruler.
3. Find your frame size
Look inside the arm of glasses that fit you well for three numbers like 52□18-140. Then choose frames within about 2 mm on lens width and bridge. Here's what those numbers mean.
4. Pick a shape that suits you
A simple rule: pick a frame shape that contrasts with your face shape. Round faces suit rectangle and square frames; square faces suit round and oval frames. Our face shape guide goes into more detail.
5. Enter your prescription carefully
Copy each number exactly, including plus and minus signs. OD is your right eye; OS is your left. At Fast Eyeglasses you can type your prescription and upload a photo of it, so we can double-check the numbers.
6. Check out securely
Look for a secure (https) checkout and a trusted payment method. We use PayPal, so you can pay with your PayPal account or a card through PayPal, and your card details never touch our site.
Tips for a great first order
- Start with a frame close in size to one you already like.
- Double-check the CYL and Axis if you have astigmatism. Those are the most common copying errors.
- If anything on your prescription is unclear, upload the photo and add a note.
Ready? Shop all frames. Everyday frames are $79 with single vision prescription lenses, and we currently ship to Michigan, Oregon, Montana and Delaware.
