1. Choose the right measurement
Copy a PD recorded for the intended use. Distance and near/reading PD are not interchangeable. Do not subtract a fixed amount to invent a reading PD, divide a total to guess right/left values, or use frame-size markings.
For children, prism, complex prescriptions, eye alignment concerns or uncertain results, use a professional fitting. Do not use this helper to bypass checkout review.

A calculated total is arithmetic, not a verified PD. Keep separate right/left measurements when you have them. Input limits catch obvious typing errors; they do not certify that a value fits your eyes. Checkout applies its own requirements.
2. Print a ruler, then check its scale
Use a physical ruler with millimeter markings, or print our 100 mm ruler. Print at 100% / Actual size, with page scaling off. Verify the complete scale against a physical ruler before use. A screen ruler is not reliably life-size.
For an adult considering a home measurement, read Cleveland Clinic’s PD measurement guidance. Home methods vary in accuracy. If the markings are hard to read or your results differ, stop and ask an optician instead of averaging guesses.
3. Use the measurement responsibly
Keep the source, date, intended use and right/left labels with your measurement. Ask your eye-care professional if anything is unclear. Enter only the wearer’s actual measured PD at checkout. Missing details can be sent for review before payment.
