Choose around the order you need
Four places to investigate for custom reading glasses
| Retailer | What to investigate | Before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Zenni Optical | Single-vision reading ordering guidance | Check the prescription format and PD instructions |
| Warby Parker | Reading lens options | Confirm your selected frame and custom prescription |
| Eyebuydirect | Single-vision reading choices in its lens guide | Select the correct lens use and review the final order |
| Fast Eyeglasses | Eligible corrective single-vision reading orders | Clarify reading-only values and any prior PD adjustment |
Start with Zenni’s reading-lens instructions, Warby Parker’s lens options and Eyebuydirect’s lens-selection guide. Check the custom order path rather than assuming a product labeled “readers” uses your individual prescription.
Make sure you are comparing the same kind of reader
Ready-made readers usually use the same labeled power in both lenses. A custom reading pair can follow the prescribed values for each eye, including cylinder correction where prescribed. If your eye-care professional has recommended a specific approach, compare that order rather than choosing from a generic strength chart.
Our custom reading glasses vs. readers comparison explains the shopping differences. This retailer shortlist is for the next step: finding a seller that can make the prescribed pair and provide the support you want.
A pair for a book and a pair for a farther-away monitor may have different requirements. Describe the working distance to the prescriber, then use the resulting prescription. Do not choose a different strength merely because a website calls it a computer lens.
Resolve the prescription and PD questions before checkout
If your document includes distance values and an ADD, ask for the reading-only prescription in an orderable format or contact the seller before submitting. Do not calculate the conversion yourself or leave out entries that seem inconvenient.
PD instructions matter too. Tell the seller whether the measurement is a distance PD, a reading measurement or a value already adjusted for the task. At our checkout, select the reading-use option and answer the prior-adjustment question accurately. Applying an additional adjustment to an already prepared value can create the wrong order.
For astigmatism, keep the prescribed CYL and AXIS values. See our reading glasses and astigmatism guide for the information to have ready. Missing or unclear numbers need clarification, not a guess.
Compare the total, the task and the return terms
Fast Eyeglasses everyday complete pairs start at $79 with a frame and standard CR-39 single-vision lenses. Standard anti-reflective coating adds $35, making that configuration $114 before other options or applicable prescription charges. Ask every shortlisted retailer what its quote includes so you can compare the same order.
We currently ship eligible corrective orders to Michigan, Delaware, Oregon and Montana. Fully nonprescription orders are not enabled. Progressives, bifocals and prism orders are not offered; custom reading orders must meet our single-vision prescription requirements.
Review the custom-order return terms before paying. A fit trial, a correction of a manufacturing error and a change to the prescription are different situations. Ask each retailer what happens in the situation you are concerned about, and keep the answer with your final order summary.
Compare your shortlist with the wider guide
Our 10-place online glasses comparison offers a broader shortlist. Use it to choose two or three stores, then compare the same prescription, frame dimensions, lens features and complete price. Keep the final quote and policy together so the decision remains clear after a sale banner changes.
Common shopping questions
Should I enter an ADD as the whole reading prescription?
Do not guess how to convert the document. Ask the prescriber for reading-only values or contact the seller before ordering.
Does reading glasses mean the same thing at every retailer?
No. Confirm whether the item is a ready-made reader or a custom pair made to the prescription for each eye.
