Understand why a ready-made reader is different
For prescription reading glasses with astigmatism, compare the prescribed correction with the actual lens product. Ordinary ready-made readers typically use the same labeled power for both eyes and do not reproduce individual CYL and AXIS values.
Cleveland Clinic’s readers explanation discusses those limitations. Ask your eye-care professional whether a ready-made reader or a custom prescribed pair is suitable for your near task.
This is not a claim that custom glasses are always better for everybody. The comparison is whether the pair matches your recommended correction, task and fit.
Obtain the correct near prescription
If your document shows distance values and an ADD, ask the prescriber for the appropriate reading-only prescription or contact us before ordering. Do not add the figures yourself or place the ADD into SPH.
Copy the current near prescription one eye at a time. Keep every CYL sign and its matching AXIS exactly as written. A zero SPH with nonzero CYL is still corrective information; do not omit the cylinder because the sphere says PL.
Fast Eyeglasses can accept eligible corrective single-vision orders, but we do not offer progressives, bifocals, prism or fully noncorrective plano pairs. Unclear or unsupported prescriptions need clarification before checkout.
Keep task measurements separate from lens power
Use measured PD information for the pair and answer checkout’s reading-use and prior-adjustment question accurately. Do not apply another adjustment to a measurement already prepared for reading.
Check whether the document labels right and left values or near and distance values. They are different formats. Our two-PD-number guide explains that entry question.
Compare frame dimensions with a comfortable pair. A frame that fits badly is not repaired by adding cylinder correction, and a coating does not supply missing prescribed numbers.
Review the whole custom pair
Everyday base pairs start at $79 with standard CR-39 single-vision lenses. Optional materials, coatings and applicable stronger-prescription charges add to the total. Confirm the actual price after choosing the configuration.
See reading-glasses ordering information and the general astigmatism ordering checklist. The near-task prescription is the key distinction for this guide.
Read the custom prescription return policy before paying. Incorrect prescription or PD entries and style or fit changes do not qualify for a free change-of-mind remake.
Common buying questions
Can ordinary ready-made readers reproduce my cylinder prescription?
Ordinary ready-made readers do not reproduce individual CYL and AXIS values. Ask your provider which correction is suitable.
Can I enter a zero sphere with cylinder correction?
Yes, for eligible corrective single-vision orders. Enter the prescribed CYL and AXIS too; fully noncorrective plano pairs are not offered.
