PD helper guide

How to Use Our PD Helper and Printable Ruler

Our free PD helper combines a printable millimeter ruler with a simple way to organize measured values. Here is what it does, where it stops and how to use it responsibly.

Start with a recorded measurement

Ask your optician for the wearer’s PD and whether it is for distance or reading. Keep the right/left labels if two numbers are supplied. Our helper records the format you enter and can add two measured values; it cannot measure your eyes. A result that looks tidy is not proof of a correct fitting.

Print at actual size

The printable scale is 100 mm long. Select 100% or Actual size and turn off Fit to page. Compare the entire 0–100 scale against a physical millimeter ruler before using it. Printer settings can resize a page silently. If the check fails, adjust the settings or use a physical ruler instead.

Know when to stop

Home measurements can vary. Cleveland Clinic recommends professional measurement for the best accuracy. Use an optician for uncertain results, children or more complex fitting needs. Do not average conflicting guesses, infer reading PD from a fixed subtraction, or use a child’s old measurement without checking it.

Keep the source with the number

Write down who measured the PD, its date and intended use. The helper does not upload, save or transfer entries to checkout. Copy only confirmed values into your order; send unclear information for review before payment.
