New prescription glasses vs. replacement lenses: compare the whole job

Keeping a frame you love can make sense. So can starting with a new pair. Compare the condition of the frame and the complete job before deciding.

Compare the task, the fit and the complete price.

Compare like-for-like lens designs and materials. A lens-only headline price may exclude options included in a complete-pair quote, and a complete-pair starting price may exclude the upgrades you need.

Ask about the frame before ordering lenses for it

Tell the replacement provider the frame’s brand or model if known, approximate age and any repair history. Ask whether they inspect it before accepting the job. A familiar frame can still have worn hinges, a damaged bridge or an earlier repair that matters during work.

Ask who is responsible if an existing frame breaks during fitting and whether replacement parts are available. Get that policy before sending the pair. Do not assume a lens warranty covers an old frame.

Keep a record of the current lens and frame condition. If the frame no longer sits comfortably, discuss adjustment or a different frame rather than expecting new lenses to solve the physical fit.

Plan what you will wear while the job is being done

Ask whether the provider needs the frame throughout the process and when it will be returned. If it is your only usable pair, that affects the decision even when the lens quote looks attractive.

A new complete pair may let you keep the old pair while the new one is prepared. It still needs the current appropriate prescription, measured PD and checked frame fit. Our reorder checklist helps organize the details.

For Fast Eyeglasses, most basic pairs ship within two business days, then carrier transit follows. We ship to Michigan, Delaware, Oregon and Montana. Confirm a deadline with the seller rather than treating preparation time as delivery time.

Compare the total and the remedies

Request the complete quote for the same prescribed task, material and coatings. Include any stronger-prescription, fitting, handling and shipping charges. Then compare the warranty and return terms for the actual job.

Our everyday complete pairs start at $79 with a frame and standard CR-39 single-vision lenses. Optional materials, coatings and applicable stronger-prescription charges are extra. We do not currently accept customer frames for lens-only replacement.

If a complete pair is the option you want, explore the frame catalog and read our custom prescription return policy. If you want to keep the existing frame, find a provider that explicitly offers that service and confirms its conditions.

Common comparison questions

Can Fast Eyeglasses replace lenses in my own frame?

Not currently. We sell complete prescription pairs with a frame and lenses; customer-frame lens replacement is not available.

Is replacing lenses always cheaper than a new pair?

No universal price comparison applies. Compare complete quotes for the same lens options, including fitting, handling and shipping charges.
