What is a triangle face shape?
A triangle, sometimes called a base-down triangle or pear face shape, has a jaw that appears broader than the forehead. It is different from a heart shape, which is typically wider at the forehead and narrower toward the chin.
You do not need to classify every feature precisely. If you want more visual emphasis near your eyes and brow, try frames with a stronger upper edge. If you prefer the look of a delicate rim, wear that instead. The frame should reflect your taste, not correct your face.
Try detail along the top of the frame
A gently upswept cat-eye frame draws attention to its outer upper corners. A square or rectangle frame with a defined upper rim creates a different, more level line across the brow.
Compare a thicker rim with a thinner one in a similar size. The thicker rim will be more visible, especially in black or a deep color. A lighter-colored rim can offer the same shape with less contrast. Avoid choosing a frame solely because a style guide gives it the right label.
Round and oval frames are still options
Round and oval frames give you a curved outline. They are useful if you want a softer look than a sharply angular rectangle. Compare the upper edge, the rim thickness and the actual width rather than treating all round glasses as the same.
A thin metal round frame and a chunky plastic round frame can feel like entirely different styles. Both can work on a triangle face. Fit and personal preference decide which belongs on your shortlist.
Width should follow your fit, not your jaw label
A wider jaw does not automatically mean you need wide glasses. Frames sit on your nose and extend toward your temples. Check how a comfortable pair sits there, then compare the measurements of your next pair.
The front should not pinch, the temples should not bow sharply outward, and the lower rim should not rest on your cheeks. If your current glasses squeeze at the sides, our wide-face fit guide can help you compare alternatives.
Build a practical three-frame shortlist
- Pick an upswept frame for more emphasis at the corners.
- Pick a rectangle with a defined upper rim for an everyday look.
- Pick a round or oval frame for a curved alternative.
Keep the sizes reasonably close so you can compare style fairly. Use the frame size guide and the measurements on each product page before ordering.
