Prescription sunglasses vs. clip-ons: compare fit and convenience

A separate sunglass pair and a shade attached to your current frame offer different kinds of convenience. Check the fit and specifications before choosing.

Compare the task, the fit and the complete price.

A clip-on that looks close to the right size is not necessarily compatible with your frame. Check the product’s measurements and approved attachment method. For either option, read the actual lens specifications.

Do not judge protection by how dark a lens looks

The American Academy of Ophthalmology’s prescription-sunglasses guidance recommends 100 percent UV protection and explains that darkness or tint color does not establish UV protection. Ask the seller to confirm the actual specification.

Polarization is another feature to verify separately. Do not assume a dark lens is polarized, or that a listing includes it because a general article mentions it. Contact Fast Eyeglasses about polarized availability before buying for that purpose.

If you are choosing a photochromic lens instead, ask about the specific product and intended use. Do not assume it behaves like a dedicated sunglass lens behind a vehicle windshield.

Plan the switch you will actually make

For a dedicated pair, think about where the clear glasses will go when you put the sunglasses on. A protective case and a consistent storage spot make the change easier to manage. Choose the sunglass frame for your fit, not just its look in a photograph.

For a clip-on, check whether it covers the lenses adequately and stays where the manufacturer intends. Avoid forcing an attachment onto a delicate or incompatible frame. Ask an optician or the clip-on maker about compatibility before buying.

Compare your usual routine: travel, walking outdoors, a short errand or a longer activity. The useful choice is the setup you can use properly, not the one with the most dramatic product name.

Compare the actual configuration

At Fast Eyeglasses, an everyday $79 base pair plus the $20 solid-tint option gives a $99 example before other upgrades or applicable stronger-prescription charges. That is not a quote for every prescription or sunglass configuration.

Our prescription sunglasses page explains ordering options. We do not currently sell clip-ons or an accessories category. Compare any separate clip-on purchase using its actual compatibility, specifications and return policy.

Read our custom prescription return terms before ordering. Style and fit returns are not accepted for custom pairs. Ask about missing specifications before paying rather than assuming the photograph answers the question.

Common comparison questions

Does Fast Eyeglasses sell clip-on shades?

No. We currently offer eligible prescription sunglass configurations, not clip-ons or an accessories category.

Does a darker lens automatically have better UV protection?

No. Check the UV specification rather than judging protection by tint darkness or color.
