A school-morning spare pair
Second-Pair Glasses for School Mornings: A Practical Backup Plan
School mornings already have enough moving parts. A second pair can give you another option when your child’s usual glasses are misplaced or need repair—but only if the backup has the right prescription and fit.

Start with the routine you already have
Put a glasses check beside the shoes-and-backpack check. Is the usual pair clean, comfortable and where your child expects it? A spare is most useful when it supports that routine instead of becoming another thing to find. Give it a familiar home in a protective case, and let the adult responsible know where that case belongs.
Our Michigan school-morning checklist is a good place to build a short routine. Keep it realistic: a quick check you repeat beats a complicated plan you abandon after a week.
Choose for the same wearer and prescribed task
Begin with the child’s current prescription and the purpose for which it was prescribed. A distance pair and a reading pair should not be treated as interchangeable. Ask the prescriber if you are unsure what the backup should be. A spare bought from an older prescription is not automatically suitable because the frames still look new.
Have your child try the new pair in an ordinary setting before relying on it during a rushed morning. If the fit or vision is uncomfortable, resolve that first. Buying two pairs does not replace a proper prescription or an appropriate fit assessment.
Make storage part of the purchase
Decide who keeps the spare, where it goes and how your child gets it when needed. Check the school’s policy before leaving personal items with staff. A closed case in an agreed location is more useful than a loose pair at the bottom of a backpack.
For an outing after class, the same simple system travels well. Try our tiny leaf-detective walk or rainy-day library scavenger hunt. Those activities work with the normal glasses routine; buying another pair is optional.
Price two complete pairs before deciding
At Fast Eyeglasses, everyday complete pairs start at $79 each with standard single vision lenses. Two $79 pairs total $158 before the offer. COUPON20 saves $15.80 on one eligible $79 pair, making that example $142.20 before any applicable tax or additional charges.
A useful backup does not need every available upgrade. Compare the finished configurations, including any strength charges, before paying. Use the glasses cost calculator for an estimate and checkout for the actual order total.
Check the one-prescription order limit
Current online checkout uses one prescription per order. These examples are for two pairs configured for the same wearer and prescription. If you are buying for different children, or a parent and child, contact us before placing an order; do not enter one person’s prescription for another person.
Once the second pair arrives, keep the case, care instructions and order information together. Recheck whether the spare is still appropriate when the prescription or fit changes. The goal is a workable backup plan, not simply owning another frame.
