Science Center of Iowa with Kids: Make Prediction Cards in Des Moines
A prediction card gives a hands-on science visit a little structure: guess, observe and change your mind without worrying about getting everything right.
Start with a guess you are willing to change
Fold a sheet into three parts and label them before, during and after. Before trying an exhibit as directed, invite a prediction about what might happen. Keep the wording ordinary: ‘I think it will move farther’ is enough. Nobody needs the scientific explanation before they are allowed to be curious.
Choose activities suitable for the people in your group and follow posted instructions. Your card does not give permission to add objects, repeat an unsafe action or operate something differently from the exhibit directions.
Record what actually happened
In the middle section, describe an observation before giving a reason for it. Ask what you saw, heard or noticed within the permitted activity. If two people noticed different details, write both. An adult can help separate a direct observation from a theory about why it occurred.
Use the final section to revise the first guess. ‘I changed my mind because…’ is a useful sentence at any age. Let a child leave an explanation unfinished when the display information does not yet make sense.
Choose a separate plan for a show
If a planetarium presentation interests your family, verify the current title, schedule, age guidance, access details and any booking requirements on the official site. A listing in a program menu does not establish that the show is running at the moment you arrive.
Check the wearer’s usual prescribed glasses before leaving, and carry the case where an adult can find it. Do not change a prescription or select a lens coating because of a particular room or display. Ask for the exact product specification when shopping for a feature.
Make a prediction at home
Pick a simple household question that can be explored safely with an adult, such as which paper shape stands upright most easily. Draw the guess, try the ordinary safe activity and record what changed. Keep it separate from any experiment that needs special equipment, chemicals or professional supervision.
For a useful backup pair, compare the full configured price as well as the frame’s measurements. Fast Eyeglasses ships eligible corrective single-vision orders to Iowa. The second-pair cost guide explains the automatic qualifying saving and why COUPON20 does not discount an entire basket.
