A coastal outing can leave sand in places that looked perfectly clean at breakfast. The useful glasses plan starts before leaving home: decide where the case will live, keep a clean cloth separate from the beach towel and know the care instructions for the lenses you actually own. This Oregon coast checklist is about preparation rather than a scratch-removal trick.

Make a clean zone in the bag
Use a designated pocket or small clean pouch for the case and cloth. A case that opens into a sandy compartment can pick up the same debris you are trying to keep away from the glasses. Close it when the pair is being worn.
If several family members wear glasses, identify each case in a way your family can recognize. Do not assume similar-looking pairs have the same prescription or belong to the person who finds them first.
Stop before a dry wipe
If grit is on the lenses, avoid rubbing it around with a sleeve or towel. Follow the lens maker’s cleaning instructions and use an appropriate clean surface and supplies. Ask for advice if you are unsure about the lens or coating.
A used microfiber cloth can also carry debris. Keep a clean spare separate from anything used to dry hands, shoes or beach equipment. The label “microfiber” does not make a dirty cloth harmless.
Do not promise a scratch repair
A scratch is not the same thing as a smear. Avoid toothpaste, abrasive polish or a household cleaning experiment in an attempt to make the lens look new. If the mark remains or the pair is damaged, ask an optical professional about the appropriate next step.
The store’s warranty and custom-order policy should be read separately from routine wear and accidental damage. No article or optional coating makes a lens scratch-proof.
Choose outdoor lenses for the actual purpose

Can a clean-looking towel still be a poor lens cloth?
A towel used at the beach may carry debris. Use appropriate clean lens-care supplies and the product’s instructions.
