School-Play Costumes with Glasses: A Michigan Parent’s Rehearsal Plan
Help a child keep familiar glasses part of the costume. A short rehearsal can catch clashes with hats, props and quick changes before a Michigan school performance.

Start with these details
| Check | What to do | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Costume | Try hats and collars together | Individual items can fit differently as a set |
| Backstage | Agree on one adult handoff | Avoids a case wandering between rooms |
| Photos | Ask for a rehearsal picture | Shows costume clashes before opening night |
Let the child be part of the plan
Ask how they want the character to look with their usual glasses. A costume does not need to copy an illustration exactly to be recognizable. Try the hat, wig or headpiece at home without attaching anything to the frame. If an item pushes the glasses forward, change the costume piece rather than forcing the glasses into place.
Practice the actual sequence
Walking onto a stage, reading a script and changing costume can reveal problems a still photo misses. Use an age-appropriate rehearsal with adult supervision. Ask the school what props and backstage arrangements are permitted. Do not add strings, improvised fasteners or bulky accessories without considering the activity and the child’s needs.
Give the case a role too
Choose a clearly labeled case and agree which adult can help if the glasses need to come off. Keep it away from makeup, glitter and the pile of discarded costume pieces. A Michigan school-play checklist can be as short as glasses, case, costume and pickup plan. The point is a calmer handoff, not another chore for the child.
Choose comfort over a last-minute purchase
Do not order unfamiliar frames solely for one performance without allowing time for fit and prescription checks. If a backup pair is already available, confirm it belongs to the child and is suitable for current use. Discuss any difficulty seeing the script or stage with the appropriate professional rather than treating it as a costume problem.

Two useful questions
Should the child remove glasses to match the character?
Plan around the child’s prescribed needs and comfort; ask the school to adapt the costume where possible.
Can I glue decorations onto the frame?
Avoid improvised attachments. They can affect fit, finish and the child’s use of the glasses.
